Vid-Web is an e-business solution to web-enable
Travel Industry and Airline Ticket Booking
procedures. The solution is proven to both
increase ticket sales by giving customers
an additional medium to make trouble free
bookings, and increase revenue to Airlines
through commission free reservations.
Vid-Web System Main Features:
- Consumer Internet Reservations
- Airline Host System Interface
- On-line Credit Card Authorization
- Developed with IATA Formatted Codes
- Page Templates or Corporate Customization
- Frequent Flyer Scheme Compatible
- Commission Free Sales
- Advanced Management Statistics Module
As the travel industry utilizes the Internet
on an increasing level to search for and make
travel arrangements, Vid-Web allows Airlines
and the consumer to deal directly. The Internet
booking engine interfaces with either the
Airline’s Host Reservation System or
the Reservation System.
Ticket pricing, schedules and flight availability
are requested from the reservation system
and bookings made are returned directly back
to the reservation system. All functions that
are required to enquire and book tickets are
integrated into the engine that include checking
availability, fare quoting, scheduling and
reservations. These functions are displayed
in “User Friendly” screens which
combine to allow the consumer full access
to travel reservations.
Vid-Web can be adapted to allow Travel Agents
that do not have connectivity to Host systems
to access Global Distribution Systems or Central
Reservation Systems through a TCP/IP internet
connection from remote locations. The only
requirement is an Internet connection (dial-up)
and an internet browser.
Sessions
A terminal adapter (TA) is required
for each session running simultaneously, the
TA is only allocated to the user session when
a host transaction is required as the user
may spend some time between transactions i.e.
from when a flight schedule is displayed to
actually selecting a flight. So in effect
a TA is shared by multiple user sessions at
one time allowing many more clients to run
sessions than there are TA’s available.
Connectivity
The Host Connectivity & Interface between
the Internet booking engine and the Airline
Host is made by Gateways that support TCP/IP,
X.25, ALC, UTS and SNA protocols. Interfaces
are available for all Hosts including Airlines,
Global Distribution Systems, and Computer
Reservation Systems.
Host Interface
The Vid-Web engine is developed based on IATA
formatted codes such as Airports, Cities,
Dates, Times, Special Request Meals etc. which
are essential for interfacing with the Host.
Statistics
The Vid-Web statistical tool can be developed
to meet the needs of an Airline for any purpose
such as sales & marketing, scheduling
etc. Information which can be gained through
the booking engine statistics tool include:
- Fare Quotes requested
- Specific User Activities
- General User Activities
- Customer Details
- Bookings Made within specific dates
- Look to Book Ratio’s
- Client travel within a given period
- Average cost per trip
- Class preferences a client usually travels
- Most popular route traveled to
Requirements
The Vid-Web Internet booking engine can be
implemented with ease. The basic requirement
is:
- Main & Back-up Web Servers
- Main & Back-up Gateway Servers
- Airline Host Connection
- Permanent Internet Connection
The consumer will generally access the booking
engine via the Airlines promotional Website
through a link. The same “look and feel” of the Airline Website can be used throughout
the pages giving the consumer a consistent
corporate image.
The initial page requests details such as
the route and date of travel as well as the
number of people travelling. The system can
be configured to allow details such as the
class of journey to be submitted either at
the beginning or later in the booking engine
to either filter information initially, or
allow a greater choice of flights.
This information is then submitted in one
transaction to the host and a reply is returned
in the form of a schedule of flights available
within this given criteria. The consumer is
then required to select the preferred flights
and resubmit the form to the host. The consumer
is then provided with a fare quote and requested
to confirm the details of the journey before
proceeding with the booking. The process can
also be “stepped back” at this
stage to allow the user to adjust flight details.
An additional feature of vid-web is a fine
tuning box which can be used to adjust the
details within the same page.
After accepting the confirmation, the passenger
details along with the payment for the reservation
are requested to complete the booking. This
submission automates the Credit Card Authorization
and providing this is accepted the booking
confirmation is sent to the consumer and the
booking is complete. At any time up to the
Credit Card Authorization the user may either
step back in the booking process, or use the
box in each screen to fine tune the request.
The Vid-Web booking engine can be developed
to be a very simple process or more complex
depending on the Airlines requirement and
application. We can offer a fully scaleable
solution that is adaptable from a small regional
airline with a limited schedule, to an international
carrier with hundreds of worldwide destinations.
The Solution can be offered in a variety of
