The Fire Alarm System is an active protection system that detects fire or the effects of fire. The system can include alarm initiating device, alarm notification appliances, control units, fire safety control devices, enunciators, power supplies and wiring.
Device is made up of:
- Manual pull stations/Manual call points- To manually activate the alarm
- Smoke Detectors- Spot type
- Water flow switches- Detect when there is water flowing through the fire sprinkler system
- Rate of rise and Thermostat (heat) detectors- Detects heat changes
- Valve position switch- Indicates that a sprinkler system valve that should be open is closed
- Carbon monoxide detectors- Detects poisonous gas
- Horns / Strobes- Visual and audible devices to alert people of system activation
- Magnetic Door Holder- Doors are allowed to close when the fire alarm is activated
Capable of:
- Notifying occupants
- Notifying people in surrounding areas
- Summon fire rescue
- Control fire alarm components in building
Reliability is required to be very high due to life safety issues involved.
